    I’m a Dutchsinse student. He uses a depth to magnitude chart for deep quakes. I like it. But only for deeper quakes, lets say 200km or deeper – basically less common quakes. In a forecasting situation where we are trying to make specific and accurate forecasts, it could “muddy” our interpretations.

    Here is a link to it and this is the quick calculation. Each 100km depth of the quake adds .2 magnitude. So a 500km deep quake at 5.2 is now calculated at 6.2.
