Due to the increasing numbers of DEEP earthquakes and the sheer volume in the range of 600-900 daily, along with the ongoing pattern of 5.3 equakes, Kileaua could have a major quake. Predict a M6-7 earthquake June 19-21. Also due to the number of quakes at the 3-4KM depths and deeper, the character of this event is changing. The 3KM depth is the level of possible motion for a slip of the Hilina Slump. Hawaii HVO site has just added two new graphs of GPS locations showing subsidence/horizontal and vertical movement, showing the interest the USGS has in the ground situation. No one knows. The geothermal plant is close to coverage by the ongoing seep of lava around the area, maps show slow ingress over the plant well areas.

Since the magma chamber feeding the rift zone is at 7 KM, those deeper quakes deeper than 7 have something to do with the movement of magma possibly. From 1975 7.2 quake, its known that a 70KM long 30KM wide sea floor block subsided, with the length of 70 km parallel to the coastline. The 7.2 caused movement of approx 26 ft in horizontal motion. today, we have both earthquakes and tremors mentioned on the HVO website, new GPS locating system is in place on Kileaua(one of two graphys on HVI has already failed and is not reporting, or the graph needs to be adjusted for steeper drop of vertical height). M5 earthquakes are interspersed with M4 earthquakes and happening once a day. It may continue to perculate along, but I believe with the facing solar opening in the next days it could force more activity and increase the magnitudes of the EQ.

scary that the images on at least one page show a very close relationship with Puna Geothermal fracking activity. just an accidental finding. but so close to the lat/long of the wells. From diagrams, wells 4, 5 6,7, 9 may have lava incursion or been covered. nothing on news.- This reply was modified 6 years, 6 months ago by JEC.
